Timber as a building material already brings with it the idea of sustainability. I calculate timber construction projects and make a small contribution to the environment.

Anton is team leader of the timber construction systems calculation department

Find out here how Anton became an estimator at ZÜBLIN Timber, what makes the job so interesting and what qualities you need to have.

How did you become an estimator at ZÜBLIN Timber?

I slipped into it because I liked the variety in the calculation. There was a wide range of tasks and you learn a lot about a timber construction project. How a project is made up of individual costs still fascinates me every day.

What are your tasks as an estimator?

As an estimator, I am responsible for calculating and estimating construction costs. I analyze and calculate the material costs, labor costs, machine costs and other expenses incurred as part of a timber construction project and use this information to prepare quotations. I also ensure that the cost planning matches the requirements of the project.

I am a team leader with an individual focus on the pure delivery business of our timber construction elements through to the project business with complex construction elements.

What's great about your job?

I have been fascinated by wood as a material since I was young, I love the smell alone. When I ride my bike to work in the morning and smell the wood from our halls, it gives me a good feeling for the day. We are also a great team, where I almost feel a family touch and I enjoy going to work.

How are you working on progress?

By trying to think in all my decisions as if it were my business. My guiding principle is the following: "No enthusiasm should be greater than the passion for practical reason."

  • Thorough, with a healthy tendency towards pragmatism - that's how I would describe myself.

What makes ZÜBLIN Timber special for you?

ZÜBLIN Timber has been an established company in the timber construction sector for many decades, with a wealth of experience and knowledge in-house. Colleagues live an open exchange and share knowledge and experience. You can learn a lot there. There is a large core of long-standing employees here, mixed with many young people who bring in different perspectives. This creates a healthy mix in the company, which I feel comfortable with.

How do you recharge your batteries?

As I am a child of the mountains, I try to spend time in them as often as I can. The peace and quiet in nature helps me to sort myself out and get new inspiration.
