Future-oriented construction requires clever planning and precise structural analysis. This is where I like to get involved!

Michelle, Expert Technical Office Timber Construction

Her journey took her from the Allgäu region via Augsburg to Aichach: Michelle joined the team in November 2022. Her organizational talent, assertiveness and ability to work in a team set her apart in what is still a male-dominated department. She is passionate about timber construction, loves nature and always pays attention to the sustainable, resource-saving use of consumables.

  • My attitude: If it can't be done this way, it can be done differently. (Artur Fischer)
Never give up, but look for solutions.

How did you start your career?

I started my professional life with a traditional apprenticeship as a draughtswoman in a medium-sized engineering office. I moved to Augsburg for my studies and completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in civil engineering at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.

How did you come to ZÜBLIN Timber?

The university organizes the annual Pyramid company contact fair. ZÜBLIN Timber is always present there and I noticed it every year.
During my apprenticeship, I had a lot to do with renovating churches and their roof trusses and was also involved in timber construction during this time. My enthusiasm for wood as a building material was established here and later consolidated during my studies.
During my studies, I particularly enjoyed the design lectures, especially those on timber construction. In my Master's degree, I also took specializations in structural engineering, again in timber construction.
As I wanted to stay in the region, ZÜBLIN Timber was my favourite!

Now you're in the technical office. What do you do there?

In short: I do the structural analysis and technical project management for our timber construction projects.
Here, for example, I create structural calculations for smaller, but also for complex buildings. My tasks also include the coordination of design and work preparation (WP) with handover to production, planning coordination, communication with internal and external project participants and technical plan checking.

How is your team made up?

Our team consists of design engineers, colleagues from work preparation and structural engineers. A young team with a wide range of concentrated knowledge. Questions usually don't stay unanswered for long because someone always knows what to do. Currently, the proportion of men is still very high. But gender doesn't matter in the team - it's what you can do that counts!

What do you like most about your job?

The daily change of tasks, between meetings, development of connection points or the proximity to production make the job particularly appealing to me. I really like the close cooperation with production on the doorstep and the constant exchange. So I'm not just sitting at my desk, I'm also on the move. I also like the fact that I can contribute my own ideas and visions of possible designs and that there are no rigid processes.

How do you recharge your batteries after work?

As a native of the Allgäu, I love nature. I can also be found there in my free time. I like to go on leisurely day trips in the mountains or ride my racing bike with off-road tires. Of course, good conversations with friends and family are also part of it!
