- Timber construction picks up speed
- Completion of the shell is planned by the end of February
At the beginning of the year, timber construction began on the new office building at the Aichach site. Following the ground-breaking ceremony last summer, the second major milestone since the start of construction has been completed since the beginning of January - the assembly of the timber construction.
118 ceiling elements made from our own LENO® cross-laminated timber as well as 60 wall elements and numerous columns and beams made from glulam for the new 5-storey office building are precisely prefabricated in the Aichach plant and are therefore ready just-in-time for assembly on the construction site. The timber construction will now be completed here in around 8 weeks, weather permitting. Thanks to the high degree of prefabrication, the assembly of the timber supporting structure will be completed within 2 months and the closing of the façade will take place almost simultaneously directly after the respective floors.
True to the sustainability code of the parent companies of Ed. ZÜBLIN AG and STRABAG SE, the new timber building is completely climate-friendly and ecological in its planning, construction and operation. Almost entirely made of wood, with the exception of the supply core, the floor slab and the basement, the timber construction of the office cube shows what wood can do. 800 tons of CO2 are bound by the use of wood in this construction project. Half of the wood used here comes from the company's own production facility in Aichach and all the wood used here comes from certified forests.
In addition to wood as a renewable and climate-friendly building material, the new building will achieve efficiency house level 40 with the help of a renewable energy supply. Sustainability certification by the DGNB is being sought for the construction site. The compact cube shape of the building envelope to minimize heat loss and energy requirements, as well as a PV system on the roof, the use of cooling and heating ceiling sails, the integration of the in-house wood chip system for local heating, the use of reusable building products and charging stations for e-bikes and e-cars clearly demonstrate the high sustainability standards.
The new administration building of the timber construction specialist of Ed. Züblin AG is scheduled for completion by autumn 2024 and will offer the workforce space for 123 modern workplaces, a spacious foyer, meeting and supply rooms and an outdoor terrace.
With the support of the ZÜBLIN Ulm management and the Augsburg division, ZÜBLIN Timber is building its new headquarters as a turnkey general contractor.
