Big day at the construction site in Kernen. On February 20, following the start of construction of the ZÜBLIN residential complex on the Hangweide site in Kernen, the traditional laying of the foundation stone took place.

In addition to the mayor of Kernen, Benedikt Paulowitsch, as well as representatives of the city and Baden-Württemberg's Housing Minister Nicole Razavi, around 60 invited guests were on hand to witness this special moment and to conclude the festive act with a "time capsule".

In the coming years, an urban and forward-looking residential quarter with complementary commercial and public uses will be built on the Hangweide site. As part of its development, the two districts of Rommelshausen and Stetten will be spatially and functionally connected.

Over the coming months, affordable housing for all social groups and age groups will be created on the almost eight-hectare site. One of the future building complexes with 34 apartments on three to four floors and a gross floor area of around 3,000m2 will be realized by ZÜBLIN Timber in collaboration with Wolfer and Goebel. Completion of the building is planned for the end of 2025.

The socially subsidized housing is being built using the ZÜBLIN MOLENO® construction system in serial construction as a timber hybrid construction. Thanks to the high level of prefabrication of the building elements, the residential construction can be completed in a short construction time and therefore particularly economically. Prefabricated exterior wall elements made of cross-laminated timber are combined with prestressed concrete hollow planks.

The "Hangweide Future Project" project is part of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Stuttgart 2027. The main focus of IBA`27 is the question of how people will live and work in the Stuttgart region in the future. With the help of innovative projects, the added value of new housing approaches and sustainable construction methods for the environment and society should become visible in the presentation year 2027 and serve as a model for other cities.
