Timber construction specialist ZÜBLIN Timber began assembling the timber components for Ørestad Church in October 2025. The project for the Islands Brygges parish in the Ørestad district of Copenhagen on the Danish island of Amager combines sustainable construction with wood and modern architecture.

The joint construction project with the Danish ZÜBLIN subsidiary ZÜBLIN A/S is not only special in architectural terms, but also in terms of assembly: due to the Nordic weather conditions, assembly takes place in a large, full site enclosure solution. This has an integrated crane track that enables precise and efficient handling of the prefabricated construction elements. Thanks to the enclosed design, both the structure and the assembly personnel are reliably protected from the elements, such as cold, rain and snow. At the same time, working independently of the weather allows for more even construction progress and a high quality of workmanship - a decisive advantage in the Scandinavian climate.

Timber construction by ZÜBLIN Timber
ZÜBLIN Timber supported the project team as early as the LP5 planning stage and created the workshop drawings. The company is also responsible for the delivery and assembly of the entire supporting structure of the geometrically demanding new church building with the main hall and the striking 16 roof structures as well as the adjacent administration area.

The supporting structure of the new church building consists of a skeleton structure made of glued laminated timber and steel beams. A total of around 160 m³ of glued laminated timber is used. The skeleton structure is supplemented by timber frame walls and ribbed elements for the ceilings and roofs. The latter consist of around 1,150 m² of prefabricated ribbed elements. In total, there are around 2,800 m² of exterior walls and roof structures in timber frame construction. The staircase is prefabricated from LENO® cross-laminated timber.

Architecturally sophisticated new building
The approximately 1,600 m² sculptural building, which is reminiscent of a group of trees, comprises two floors with a church hall, administration area and inner courtyard. At the heart of the design by renowned architects Henning Larsen is a modern church with a height of up to 13 meters. The shingle roof consists of 16 differently shaped superstructures with light openings that let in plenty of daylight.

The Ørestad church is aiming for DGNB Gold certification. By using wood as a climate-neutral building material, the ecological footprint of the building is to be minimized.
