The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone on 22 October 2026 marked the start of construction of the new primary school on Rosenfelder Ring in Berlin-Lichtenberg. Completion of the new compartment-style school is scheduled for December 2027. It is being built usingthe MOLENO® construction method by ZÜBLIN’s North-East Division (Berlin region) and East Division (Jena region), in collaboration with ZÜBLIN Timber.

Together with the State Secretary for School Construction and Digitalisation in Schools, Dr Torsten Kühne, the District Mayor Martin Schaefer and District Councillor Sandy Mattes, HOWOGE Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH laid the foundation stone for the new school building.

The new building, designed by HKS Architekten of Erfurt, is being constructed as a modern ‘compartment’ school for around 430 pupils. The spatial concept provides for six compartments, each combining classrooms with supplementary learning, recreation and social areas. The school consists of two interconnected buildings. Alongside the three-storey main building with an inner courtyard, a further section of the building is being constructed to house a canteen, administrative offices and specialist rooms. A sports hall is also being built on the site, which covers approximately 14,000 m².

Prefabricated timber elements ready for installation
The new building is being constructed using the MOLENO® construction method. Prefabricated LENO®-ADD external walls with timber cladding and pre-fitted windows are being installed, along with internal walls constructed usingthe LENO® cross-laminated timber method. A structural framework made of glued laminated timber is being erected for the canteen and sports hall. A total of approximately 1,500 m³ of LENO® raw timber will be used.

The prefabrication of the timber construction elements at the ZÜBLIN Timber plant in Aichach has already been completed. Erection of the timber structure will begin in Berlin at the end of October with the ground floor of the school building. The high degree of prefabrication ensures a consistently high standard of workmanship and short assembly times on site. As a result, the assembly is scheduled to take just under four months.
