- Stefan Kratochwill as a guest in Aichach
- Insights into timber construction during a factory tour and visit to IGEWO in Augsburg - Haunstetten
- Exchange on serial production for a sustainable future in the construction industry
ZÜBLIN Timber welcomed the CEO of STRABAG SE, Stefan Kratochwill, to the company premises in Aichach on 20 May 2026. As part of the global technology group STRABAG, the visit provided a special opportunity to discuss serial construction with wood. The Aichach site serves the entire value chain and, as a modern production plant, underlines the Group's high level of expertise in serial construction, which is to be further expanded in the future.
At the same time, the visit highlights the importance of the Group's "Work On Progress" (WOP) strategy, with which STRABAG is actively driving forward the change towards resource-conserving, climate-friendly and future-oriented construction. ZÜBLIN Timber is making an important contribution to this with innovative timber and timber-hybrid solutions and demonstrating that high-performance construction can also be realised sustainably.
Stefan Kratochwill was welcomed by Michael Stiegeler, Technical Director of Ed. Züblin AG, Ulm Directorate, and Christian Scholz and Simon Pfeffer, the Commercial and Technical Division Managers of ZÜBLIN Timber. The CEO was then given a comprehensive insight into the company and its solutions in modern timber construction. Among other things, the focus was on the MOLENO® serial construction system, which combines wood and concrete to create a high-performance load-bearing structure. The system reduces construction costs, shortens construction time by up to 40 per cent and relies on wood as a CO2 storage medium.
The tour then continued with a tour of the production halls of the company's own manufacturing plant, where the individual steps of serial timber construction production are implemented.
The tour concluded with a visit to the construction site in Augsburg - Haunstetten. In the IGEWO housing estate project, the concept of cost-efficient and fast construction based on the building type e principle was combined with the MOLENO® construction method. Together with the ZÜBLIN Augsburg division, ZÜBLIN Timber is currently realising six three-storey residential buildings with a total of 54 residential units in timber hybrid construction. The timber construction of the project was already completed in March. A total of around 2,500 m² of prefabricated LENO®-ADD exterior walls from the plant in Aichach were installed. Stefan Kratochwill was able to see the almost completed residential buildings for himself on site.
"In Aichach, our MOLENO® modules are created from local added value, modern technology and strong craftsmanship - supported by over 300 colleagues. I particularly felt the shared passion for wood and the enthusiasm for sustainable production lines ," says Stefan Kratochwill.
The visit shows how modern timber construction concepts and industrial prefabrication can make an important contribution to sustainable and cost-effective construction.
