Collegium Academicum, Heidelberg

ZÜBLIN Timber erected the four-storey Collegium Academicum hall of residence in the center of the student city of Heidelberg using solid timber construction. Thanks to the high degree of prefabrication of the timber elements, the shell, including the façade with windows, was completed ex works in record time. One residential unit, consisting of the supporting structure, exterior and interior walls and ceilings, was erected each day. The ceiling elements and bracing LENO® cross-laminated timber walls were realized in visible quality. In this way, wood as a building material also ensures a comfortable room ambience inside.

The load-bearing structure consistently uses wood connectors. Tenons, slotted panels made of spruce and BauBuche, X-Fix connectors (dovetail connectors) and hardwood dowels were used.
