Homeground adidas, Herzogenaurach

The Home Ground, located on the adidas ‘World of Sports’ campus in Herzogenaurach, is a timber-framed building complex that was initially used as accommodation for the German national football team. The facility forms part of the expansion of the adidas site and first opened in 2021.

The building complex was designed to be flexible enough to accommodate a variety of uses following the UEFA EURO. It offers spaces for training and physiotherapy, communal areas with restaurant and catering facilities, as well as office and meeting spaces. The buildings are arranged around an inner courtyard featuring a swimming pool. In addition, 15 accommodation modules, each with four beds, were constructed. LENO® cross-laminated timber and glued laminated timber were used in the construction.

Our challenges
  • Four-month preconstruction and planning phase followed by a five-month construction phase
  • Winter construction
  • Construction site on a slope in a wooded area
  • All civil engineering work (supply, district heating, etc.) took place at the same time
  • Preparation of the subsoil before the start of construction, due to suboptimal soil conditions
