The Staatsgalerie light rail station was also rebuilt as part of the construction of the Stuttgart 21 through station.

It was also designed by Düsseldorf architect Christoph Ingenhoven. The new light rail station has a sweeping open shell roof, which is based on the design of the neighboring transit station with its light eyes. The station itself and the tunnel connections were built using the open construction method, partly under temporary bridges or covers supported by bored piles. As with the Stuttgart 21 through station, ZÜBLIN Timber was also responsible for the elaborate and complex timber formwork for this project.
