Stuttgart 21 Central Station
The ambitious design by architect Christoph Ingenhoven for Stuttgart 21 main station placed special demands on the type of formwork, which was manufactured by ZÜBLIN Timber.
A total of 28 columns support the roof of the new transit station, creating a monumental structure that clearly characterizes the image of the new station. The construction required formwork parts made of coated LENO® for chalice columns of different shapes, which consisted of up to 58 individual parts and were often used several times. Although the goblets look similar, only very few of them are the same; they vary in shape, inclination and length.
The demands on the special formwork were considerable. On the one hand, the compressive stress was very high, and on the other, the molds were only allowed to deform minimally. At the same time, the concrete heated up to over 75°C during solidification and placed additional stress on the special formwork. In addition, neither visible joints nor pores were to be visible and the surface had to look smooth and snow-white.
