WoodBlock House redensification, London
WoodBlock House is a response to the needs of a family and reflects sustainability through the use of wood-based materials. LENO® cross laminated timber is made from wood that is sustainably managed in Northern Europe. This material is the only 'carbon-positive' method for long-span structures, absorbing more carbon dioxide over the lifetime of the trees used than is consumed through manufacture, delivery and installation. Other benefits of using the system include: higher quality through off-site manufacture, shorter program times, elimination of wet work and robustness. Cross laminated timber was used together with reclaimed timber insulation and timber cladding. The main part of the building is south-facing and overlaps the north-facing studio. They are designed as two boxes sitting on top of each other, the house clad in painted plywood, the studio in unpainted larch.
