Especially for students who are new to the city, a hall of residence offers advantages: finding accommodation is easy, rent is affordable and contacts can be made quickly. The houses are built in solid bulkhead construction using sand-lime brickwork with reinforced concrete floor slabs and flat roofs. The façades, including the bay windows, were prefabricated as highly insulated, weather-resistant timber frame construction elements. They are predominantly clad with a thermal insulation composite system, i.e. rendered, but the bay windows are clad with timber and their roofs are clad with zinc sheeting. The energy concept is based on the KfW Efficiency House 40 standard, which is similar to the passive house standard. This entailed increased requirements for the airtightness and thermal insulation of the entire building envelope.
