Green Center, Landshut

The Abensberg-Landshut Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry is to have a new office building.

The Free State of Bavaria, in collaboration with ZÜBLIN’s Bavarian branch and ZÜBLIN Timber, is constructing a new administrative building in the east of Landshut. The project is being realised using timber construction methods and is designed for functional, architecturally clear and forward-looking use.

Commissioned by the Landshut State Building Authority, ArchitekturWerkstatt Vallentin developed a building concept that architecturally reflects the remit of the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry. Natural building materials and green elements characterise the building’s appearance, combining design clarity with functional use. The square structure is designed as a cube with a central atrium. The open interior creates space for interaction, communication and collaboration.

The building uses 2,183 m³ of timber, including 6,683 m² of cross-laminated timber. The design is complemented by green façades and roofs, as well as other natural building materials. The atrium forms the central communal space and is supported by 12 x 17 m glulam columns and a glass roof. Each floor is divided into four functional islands arranged in a windmill-like pattern and complemented by a wraparound balcony with a 3-metre overhang.
The Landshut State Building Authority played a key role in the project’s development and, later, in its management and coordination. The necessary budgetary funds for this major construction project were provided by the Bavarian Ministry of Finance.

In the implementation of its projects, the State Building Administration attaches particular importance to the resource-efficient and economical use of materials, as well as to a functional construction method designed for long-term use.
